Tundra Swans in December
Every fall close to 70,000 tundra swans migrate from the arctic tundra of Alaska down to North Carolina. I’ve been witnessing this event every year since I was little kid and it never ceases to amaze me. Over the years of photographing them I always strive to create images that are new & different. Typically, I just take advantage of whatever lighting situation I’m in. This trip the light was simply, AMAZING!
Clear & cold with almost no wind. The cold temperatures that moved while the sun began to rise helped developed a fog over the water. It appeared as if the water was on fire. While shooting directly into the sun the only real option was to create silhouettes of the swans. Really showing off the bright oranges from the sun light being cast down onto the scene.
